Substructure Black Locust finger-jointed | four sided smooth
Robinia, also known colloquially as "acacia wood", comes mainly from Eastern and Central Europe. The hard wood of the robinia is tough, elastic and very durable (durability class 1-2). Thanks to its good wood properties and high resistance, robinia is in demand as a wood for outdoor use. It is often used as "playground wood" but also for decking and as construction timber. The heartwood has a yellow to green-brown colour. The substructure comes from legal and sustainable logging. The substructure is untreated, glued in several layers, finger-jointed and planed on 4 sides.
Grading
The substructures (UK) are generally available in a standard quality. Occasionally, sub-constructions with damage, cracks, areas that have not been planed out cleanly and drop-out knots may occur. The goods are not re-sorted and therefore contain all grades from A to C. In some cases, the individual substructure battens cannot be used in their full length and must be cut to a healthy length on site. We recommend that you plan for at least 10% of the goods as a reserve or offcut.
Assembly
The installation must be carried out professionally, i.e. the maximum distance of the substructure must not exceed approx. 40-45 cm. A slope of at least 2% must be maintained in the longitudinal direction of the boards. The decking boards must be well ventilated. Waterlogging must be prevented by structural wood protection such as rubber or plastic underlays. Please use only fastening materials made of stainless steel (V2A or V4A) for installation. Simple fastening materials that are only galvanised react with the ingredients of the wood and lead to unsightly, usually dark discolouration. If the screws are visible, the holes must be pre-drilled to avoid cracks and splintering due to the tension in the wood. Treat the decking boards with an end-grain wood preservative at the ends to prevent drying-related cracks at the board ends.
