Etimoé is a type of wood found mainly in West Africa. The sapwood is yellowish brown and clearly separated from the heartwood, the heartwood is reddish brown with darker colour zones and resin streaks. Growth zones are faintly visible, in radial section the wood rays form fine mirrors and vascular grooves are conspicuous, but not always evenly running.

Occurrence

The Etimoé tree is particularly widespread in Franz. -It is particularly common in French Guinea, Sierra Leone and Ghana, but can also be found in other parts of West Africa.

Trunk and bark

Etimoé trees reach heights of up to 30m and diameters of 1m. However, the useful length of the trunk rarely exceeds 9m, as the trunk very soon becomes barked. The bark of Etimoé is very similar to beech and is grey.

Characteristics and wood colour

Resinous inclusions in the channels turn black after drying and give the wood of Etimoé a veined appearance. The sapwood and heartwood are sharply separated in Etiomé. While the sapwood is yellowish brown, the heartwood has a reddish brown, fairly even colour.
