Anegré is a light-coloured wood species that originates from Africa. Several botanical species from closely related genera such as Breviea, Donella, Gamberya and Malacantha are often grouped together under Anegre. The wood species is very suitable for dyeing or printing. Cherry or walnut are often imitated.

Occurrence

Anegre is found in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia and also in Central and East Africa.

Trunk and bark

Anegré can reach a height of up to 30 m and a diameter of up to 130 cm. The knotless stem of the Anegré species is up to 16 m long.

Characteristics and wood colour

The pores of Anegré are scattered, small to medium sized and the growth zones are faintly visible. An alternating twisted growth is often typical. The light shade has a light yellowish-brown to light pinkish-brown colour and the sapwood is clearly separated from the heartwood and can be easily distinguished.
