Veneer Afrormosia 0.90 mm

When Afrormosia came on the market after the Second World War, it quickly found its way into many areas because it looks like teak and has good properties. In the Red List of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), Afrormosia (Pericopsis elata) was classified as "threatened". Trade has increased greatly since 1948, but it has not been sustainable. The habitat of Afrormosia has declined sharply in recent decades.

Afrormosia (Pericopsis elata) is subject to the following trade regulation: EU protection B ( CITES Appendix II ), i.e. for the import of specimens of species subject to EU protection B, a CITES export document from the country of origin or dispatch and an import permit from the respective competent nature conservation authority in the EU country are required. Import permits can only be issued if the Scientific Authority does not express any concerns about this and there is no ban on importing the species in question into the European Union. These are species that are potentially threatened with extinction and are therefore subject to controlled trade.

Occurance

The wood species Afrormosia (Pericopsis elata) comes from West Africa, mainly from Ghana, Zaire and the Ivory Coast.

Trunk and bark

The Afrormosia tree can reach a height of up to 50 metres and a diameter of up to 2 metres.

Characteristics and wood colour

The pore arrangement of Afrormosia is scattered, medium sized and tangential. A pronounced alternate twist is common. The sapwood is white, while the heartwood is brownish to olive.
